Last week at Duke University, our Fuqua chapter sponsored an all-day conference to reflect on Trump's first year in office. Attended by over 100 Duke MBA students, there were three panels — on health care, taxes and the year ahead, respectively — and a keynote address by Bill Kristol.
The engaged student audience heard experts weigh in on a variety of policy topics pursued by the administration. The health care panel focused on the failure to pass thorough reform in 2017, and what an ideal reform bill would look like going forward. On taxes, the panel touched on how much of the talk on the effect of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is speculative at this point. The panel worried that legislators devised and implemented this tax bill too quickly, leaving in many loopholes.
In his keynote, Bill Kristol explained how our politics will continue to be tumultuous, and stressed the importance of students working to shape a better future. In a panel with Kristol and Henry Olsen, they discussed what to expect in 2018.
