The Adam Smith Society at Darden is hosting a week-long conversation about the important role that capitalism and free markets play in different aspects of industry and society. The series of events features a different set of speakers and leaders each day during the 1:30 break hour, where lunch will be provided in the Abbott Dining Center.

Opening Session: Technology & Automation

 

  • Robert Atkinson, Founder & President, Information Technology and Innovation Foundation

How does capitalism drive innovation and productivity? Who benefits from technological advancement? What responsibility do business leaders and policy makers have managing these changes? Is the digital revolution differ from previous technological advancements? Dr. Atkinson is a prolific writer, speaker, and advisor to three different U.S. Presidents on these important issues.

Tuesday Session: Inequality

 

  • Yaron Brook, President & Excutive Director, Ayn Rand Institute

Does capitalism create inequality? How does capitalism differ from other economic systems in its distribution of economic rewards? Is inequality inherent? Is it even bad? Should policy makers try to eliminate inequality? Yaron Brook is a provocative author, radio host, and commentator on the nature of capitalism and government.
