San Francisco Chapter Asks, Have We Reached "Peak Sharing Economy"?
December 07, 2016As 2016 has drawn to a close, tech industry insiders increasingly have been wondering if the "sharing economy" has hit its peak. Has the market become saturated with new start-ups and apps? What is the future of companies operating in this space? Smith Soc San Francisco asked these questions of Jonathan Swanson, founder of Thumbtack at an event on December 6th.
Jonathan talked about his experience as a founder of start-up, and how he went from an initial idea to a successful business. He remains convinced that the sharing economy offers the possibility of generating income and unlocking wealth creation and opportunity for small businesses and others. He reflected on the challenges that sharing economy start-ups -- and all businesses in the tech sector -- are facing: regulation, immigration, and health care. He also discussed how things might change as we head into the new year and new administration.
