After a tumultuous week that saw him protested at Middlebury College, the Smith Soc chapter at Vanderbilt Owen was very pleased to welcome controversial AEI scholar Charles Murray to campus on Tuesday, March 14th.
A civil crowd turned out to listen to Murray speak, and to engage with the ideas he first put forward in his book Coming Apart. In his talk on understanding "Trump’s America" (which he had also discussed in a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed), Murray looked at the alienation of the white working class and asked if we can recover from a loss of allegiance to the civic culture that makes America unique.
