Austin Chapter Talks Startups & Regulation

July 19, 2017

The Adam Smith Society's Austin Chapter opened the Smith Soc Summer Receptions series with a happy hour reception on Tuesday evening, July 18. Speaking at the event were Aaron Fox, an executive with Lyft, and Will Davis, CEO and Co-Founder of Able Lending, a small business lender located in Austin. May 2017 marked the end to a contentious battle over ridesharing in Austin, as a new state law superseded a local ordinance that had led to ridesharing giants Lyft and Uber briefly leaving the Austin market. The controversy served as a starting point for discussing the regulatory challenges startups face as they deal with often-changing regulations across jurisdictions.

The event gave Austin Smith Soc members a chance to connect and network with each other, as well as with two leading entrepreneurs in the Austin/Dallas-Ft. Worth area. This event also gave recently graduated MBAs from area b-schools, such as the University of Texas McCombs School, the chance to experience a Smith Soc professional chapter event and see the full benefits of Adam Smith Society membership
