
On Tuesday August 1st, the Smith Soc summer receptions series came to a conclusion as Smith Soc Chicago hosted a panel discussion about the ongoing Illinois budget crisis. MI Senior Fellow Aaron Renn moderated the panel, which featured three Illinois experts: Ted Dabrowski of the Illinois Policy Institute; Marc Levine, the Chairman of the Illinois State Board of Investment (ISBI); and Sheila Weinberg, the founder and CEO of Truth in Accounting. The speakers emphasized the need to for an honest accounting of the budget problem, the fact that Illinois' insolvency cannot be cured via normal means, and the necessity of restructuring public sector pension obligations.
