The Georgetown chapter hosted Rod Hunter, Senior VP, International Advocacy for PhRMA, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America. He spoke on the subject of free trade and economic policy.

BIO 

Rod Hunter is a senior vice president at Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), a trade association representing the leading research-based pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. He came to PhRMA from IBM, where he served as Vice President, Governmental Programs, Europe. 

Prior to heading up IBM’s governmental programs in Europe, Hunter served in senior roles in the U.S. government and as a partner of an international law firm.During his government service, Hunter served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director of the White House’s National Security Council under President George W. Bush, where he coordinated the Administration’s international economic agenda, including trade, intellectual property, investment, energy and environmental policies. Before joining the NSC, he served as Special Counsel in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.

Prior to 2001, Hunter was a Brussels-based partner with Hunton & Williams, and led the firm’s European regulatory practice. Earlier in his career, he served as an assistant to U.S. Senator John Warner, and as a judicial clerk for Judge Boyce Martin on the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and Australian Chief Justice Sir Anthony Mason. He received a B.A. from Hampden-Sydney College and a J.D. from the University of Virginia.
