The Duke Fuqua Chapter hosted a reception, followed by a screening and discussion of Ray Dalio's video, 'The Economic Machine.' The discussion was led by the chapter leaders and featured Duke economics professor Ryan McDevitt.
'The Economic Machine' was created by Ray Dalio in order to describe his version of the economy, as well as how leveraging and deleveraging works over time. The discussion/debate proceeded over the topics covered in the video, including: What intere st rates need to be at in order to successfully deleverage in a 2% growth economy? Do you think constrained credit markets, often seen in non-capitalist or highly regulated markets is beneficial or detrimental to the leveraging and "beautiful deleveraging" mechanisms Ray Dalio has described? Professor Ryan McDevitt participated in the discussion and brought in a great deal of expertise.
